Australia's Safest Van.

On the 18th August 2009, the Mercedes-Benz Vito was awarded a 5 Star rating by ANCAP, the highest safety rating available in Australia. The Vito is the first and only van in the country to be awarded 5 stars, when fitted with optional front window airbags.

What constitutes 5 Stars?

In order to receive 5 stars a vehicle needs to be subjected to 3 crash tests:
- A frontal offset crash test
- A side impact test
- A pole test

In the case of the Vito and Viano, the frontal offset and side impact tests were conducted by Euro NCAP and the pole test by ANCAP.

A vehicle must acheive a minimum of 32.5 points out of 37 in order to achieve a 5 star rating.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito scored an overall rating of 32.66.

This 5-star result demonstrates that the Mercedes-Benz Vito is as safe as, or even safer than many passenger cars on the road today.

This is another automotive safety milestone which demonstrates that the pioneering role of Mercedes-Benz in vehicle safety is not exclusive to passenger cars.
